Classic Strawberry Jam Recipe

Classic Strawberry Jam Recipe

There’s nothing quite like the taste of homemade strawberry jam—sweet, fresh, and perfect for spreading on toast, biscuits, or using in baking. Today, we’ll walk you through a classic strawberry jam recipe that captures the flavors of summer and allows you to enjoy them all year long. Whether you’re a beginner or an experienced preserver, this recipe is straightforward and rewarding.

Ingredients:

  • 4 cups fresh strawberries (hulled and chopped)

  • 4 cups sugar

  • 1/4 cup lemon juice

Instructions

  1. Prepare the Strawberries:

    • Rinse the strawberries, remove the stems, and chop them into small pieces. Place them in a large pot.

  2. Cook the Jam:

    • Add the sugar and lemon juice to the pot with the strawberries. Stir the mixture well and bring it to a boil over medium heat.

    • Continue cooking, stirring frequently, until the mixture thickens (about 20 minutes). Skim off any foam that forms on the surface.

  3. Test for Setting:

    • To check if the jam is ready, place a small spoonful on a chilled plate. If it wrinkles and holds its shape when pushed, it’s done. If not, continue cooking and test again after a few minutes.

  4. Jar the Jam:

    • Pour the hot jam into sterilized jars, leaving 1/4 inch of headspace. Wipe the rims, seal with lids, and process in a boiling water bath for 10 minutes.

  5. Cool and Store:

    • Remove the jars from the water bath and let them cool on a towel. You’ll hear a “pop” as the jars seal. Store the sealed jars in a cool, dark place for up to a year. Refrigerate after opening.

Tips:

  • Use Fresh, Ripe Strawberries: The fresher and riper the strawberries, the more flavorful your jam will be.

  • Experiment with Flavors: Add vanilla, mint, or even a splash of balsamic vinegar for a unique twist.
